Owen wins new contract at United
Manchester United have handed a new contract to striker Michael Owen.
Owen's contract with the club was due to expire this summer and despite him playing just a bit-part role in the past 12 months, he had spoken positively about earning a fresh deal.
Manager Sir Alex Ferguson is likely to bring in new faces in the coming weeks and with Wayne Rooney and Javier Hernandez the preferred forward partnership, Owen's role is likely to be one of impact.
But despite the striker's impact likely to be limited, Ferguson clearly feels the forward has a role to play as he has handed a fresh deal to the former Liverpool man.
