Default Pakistan duo lead Kent to victory

Kent had Pakistan duo Wahab Riaz and Azhar Mahmood to thank for leading them to victory over Gloucestershire in Beckenham.

Riaz took five wickets in seven balls, including a hat-trick, before his compatriot unleashed a fantastic batting display, scoring 106 runs from 57 balls to guide Kent to their second win of the t20 campaign.

On his home debut Riaz conceded 13 runs in his first over but shone when re-introduced to put the Gladiators' batsmen to the sword, playing a large part in restricting the visitors to 166.

The Spitfires lost captain Rob Key early on but Mahmood then took centre stage and smashed the Gloucestershire attack around the ground, ably assisted by Joe Denly who cracked a 44-ball 50 as Kent sealed an eight-wicket win.

A century from Marcus Trescothick helped Somerset to a massive 143-run victory over Es+++ at Chelmsford in their Friends Life t20 South Group clash today.

Trescothick smashed the highest score of the season so far in the competition with an unbeaten 108 from only 61 deliveries to lead his side to 225 for two.

The hosts never looked like getting anywhere near their target as Craig Meschede took three wickets and, in being bowled out for only 82, they suffered the largest margin of defeat by any county in the tournament.

In the North Group, Warwickshire picked up their third win of the season as their bowlers steered them to a six-wicket victory over Northamptonshire at Wantage Road.

Keith Barker and Jeetan Patel both helped themselves to three wickets as the Bears bowled out the hosts for 96 - the first time Warwickshire have removed a batting side for less than 100 in a 20-over match.

Johan Botha (28) top-scored for the Steelbacks before the visitors reached their target with 10 balls to spare, Darren Maddy's 26 seeing him pass the milestone of 2,000 T20 runs in the process.

Worcestershire recorded an unlikely 15-run victory over Derbyshire at the County Ground to pick up their second win of the group stage, Chris Whelan proving to be the difference as he took four wickets for the visitors.

Former England batsman Vikram Solanki had earlier top-scored for the Royals with 28 but the hosts would have felt they could have chased down their fairly modest target of 122.

Worcestershire's bowlers impressed throughout and were helped by some poor running between the wicket as they skittled out the Falcons for 106 even though Chesney Hughes (22) and Steffan Jones (24) scored well.
