While promoting his latest film Larry Crowne, which the actor directed, Hanks was asked by radio station Magic 105.4 whether a fourth instalment of Pixar's hit Toy Story films was on the cards.

Tom said: 'Whatever is going on at Pixar headquarters is a mystery to me. I'll wait until they blow white smoke out of the chimney or whatever it is that says there's another Toy Story coming down the pipe.'

But he added: 'I think there will be yeah. Yeah, yeah. I think they’re working on it now. There you go.'

Fans are already going to be treated to more adventures with Woody, Buzz and the gang in a short film called Toy Story Toons: Hawaiian Vacation to be shown at the start of Cars 2.

Toy Story 3 was a huge hit when it was released last summer, taking $1bn at the box office.

Pixar recently announced they will be releasing a mystery film in 2013, but those hoping for more Toy Story may be disappointed as the animation giants have said it is unrelated to any of their previous films.
