Fish continues fine form
Top seed at the Farmers Classic Mardy Fish cruised to a 7-6 6-1 victory over Gilles Muller in their second round clash in Los Angeles.
Fish bounced back from a slow start as he dropped a service game in the opening set to recover and win the tiebreaker 7-1. The world No. 9 is in fine form of late, after winning the ATP tournament in Atlanta last week, and he will now take on Russian Igor Kunitsyn, who found the going a little tougher, but still advanced after a 7-6(4) 7-6(6) win over American Ryan Sweeting.
Fourth seed Thomaz Bellucci from Brazil destroyed fellow South American Alejandro Falla 6-0 6-1, while Alex Bogomolov Jr saw off No. 7 seed Grigor Dimitrov 6-4 6-3.
At the Swiss Open, second seed Stanislas Wawrinka claimed three breaks of serve to beat world No. 248 Peter Luczak 6-3 7-5 in 82 minutes, while Fernando Verdasco and Feliciano Lopez both breezed into the quarters with straight-sets wins in rain-delayed matches.
Meanwhile, home hope Marin Cilic battled back from the loss of the first set to defeat Robin Haase 4-6 6-4 6-3 to reach the last eight at the Croatian Open.
