Defoe out of Chelsea clash
Tottenham have been dealt a pre-Christmas blow with the news striker Jermain Defoe will miss Thursday's Premier League encounter with Chelsea due to a hamstring injury.
Defoe has been struggling with the complaint for the last few weeks but Spurs boss Harry Redknapp had hoped the striker would recover in time to be available for selection at White Hart Lane.
However, the 29-year-old - who missed Sunday's victory over Sunderland - has failed to shake off the niggle, meaning he joins Aaron Lennon (hamstring), who went off injured in the first half hour against Sunderland, on the sidelines.
Whoever wins Thursday's derby will be London's top club at Christmas - something Spurs have not managed to achieve since 1995.
