LAHORE: The National Twenty20 Championship got off to a flyer in Lahore with teams from Karachi, Faisalabad, Sialkot, Peshawar and Lahore made a winning start to the Championship.
Younis Khan's unbeaten 45 propelled Peshawar Panthers to 163 despite Shoaib Akhtar's impressive opening spell for Islamabad Leopards. The Leopards received a 12-run penalty for slow over rate.
On the other hand, defending champions Sialkot Stallions dominated their match against Karachi Zebras restricting them for 147 while chasing 180 to win.
In other matches, Quetta Bears lost their battle to Lahore Lions by 2 runs. The Lions innings was anchored by Salman Butt who stroked 99 not out to steer them to 188.
Mohammad Talha's hat trick sealed Faisalabad Wolves's 20 run win over Abbottabad Rhinos while Fawad Alam's courageous half century and Anwar Ali's 3 wickets for 8 runs enabled Karachi Dolphins down Lahore Eagles by 27 runs.
Chief Selector Salahuddin Ahmed told Geo News that the tournament is ideal to judge the form and fitness of the players ahead of the Canada Quadrangular tournament next week.
