RIO DE JANEIRO, Brazil: Italy defeated Russia 2-1 to win the bronze medal in the Futsal World Cup here Saturday.
The match for deciding third position was very interesting as both teams contested hard throughout the game.
Adriano Foglia put Italy 1-0 up in the tenth minute, but Konstantin Dushkevich equalized for Russia in the 25th minute.
However, Saad Assis scored the winning goal with just 13 seconds left Saturday for Italy to beat Russia 2-1 and clinch the bronze medal at the Futsal World Cup.
On Sunday, Brazil plays Spain in the final.
Brazil and Spain are the only nations to have won the World Cup in futsal, which is played in two 20-minute periods on a surface about the size of a basketball court.
Brazil won the first three editions and the Spaniards the last two. The Brazilians finished third at the last World Cup after losing in the semifinals to the Spaniards.
