PESHAWAR: A joint venture of PCB National Cricket Academy and Mobilink Talent Hunt scheme got under way here at Arbab Niaz Cricket Stadium Academy with more than 200 game aspirants turned up.

A former national selector, Farrukh Zaman was the scheme officer in Peshawar where U-16 youngsters from Nowshera, Charsadda and Peshawar took part.

Regional General Manager PCB Anwar Zeb Jan was also present and monitored the trials.
Farrukh Zaman disclosed that two local coaches Jan-e-Alam and NWFP Academy coach Pervez Khan assisting him in the trials.

He also expressed his satisfaction over the arrangement made by Regional General Manager PCB for the talent hunt scheme. He said that more than 200 players from three district turned up for the trials among them 70 to 80 players will be short-listed in the first phase.

The scheme will help PCB for finding new faces for the future in the country. It is a first of its kind activity that would help provide an opportunity to sports bodies in finding real talents in the country. The program has draw thousands of prospective cricketers, who after proper coaching will be nurtured to become the future cricket heroes of Pakistan, Farrukh added.

The scheme is a nationwide search for talent that could one day change the lives of ordinary youngsters to become heroes of tomorrow, he added.

About the format of the scheme, he said, open trials is conducted. The whole process will continue for 10-day and the short listed players would then be given a chance to play three one-day matches to prove their talent and get selection in the final fifteen of each of their respective regions plus five reserve players.

The main aim is to bring in talented players for the U-16 team of Pakistan who will then be trained over the years and seasoned to join the National team.

The selected lot will undergo basic cricket training from the coaches for the next five days. The final three days are set aside for three limited-over matches before finalizing probables for regional team.

There will be 11 teams regional battle under the NCA through which final 25 will be picked for the National U-16 team like we had last year.
