candel Brazil Grand Prix: Massa grabs first pole position

BRAZILIA: The final race in the Formula One season, Brazil Grand Prix, is being held here today while Felipe Massa grabbed the first position in pole for the season-ending Brazil Grand Prix. Lewis Hamilton is on the second row as he aims to become the youngest ever Formula One world champion.

Massa is seven points behind championship leader Briton Lewis Hamilton of McLaren Mercedes and needs to win and hope that the 23-year-old Englishman fails to finish in the top five to lift the title.

Massa clocked a best time of one minute and 12.368 seconds in the third and final part of the session.

Italian veteran Jarno Trulli stole second place for Toyota pushing outgoing champion Kimi Raikkonen of Ferrari down to third with Hamilton alongside him on the second row. Hamilton qualified fourth.

Hamilton's team-mate Heikki Kovalainen qualified fifth ahead of two times champion Spaniard Fernando Alonso of Renault.
