Ferrer sends Spain into Davis Cup final
David Ferrer overcame John Isner in four sets to send Spain into the Davis Cup final, where they will face Argentina or Czech Republic.
Spain led America 2-1 at the start of Sunday's action, and Ferrer's 6-7(3) 6-3 6-4 6-2 triumph on home soil in Gijon gave them an unassailable lead.The victory means that Ferrer's Davis Cup singles record on clay now stands at a formidable 16-0.
America had pulled back the deficit on Saturday when the Bryan brothers won their doubles contest against Marcel Granollers and Marc Lopez, but Isner was unable to carry that momentum on.
Elsewhere, Germany secured a World Group spot for 2013 with a 3-2 victory over Australia. Cedrik-Marcel Stebe beat Lleyton Hewitt 6-4 6-1 6-4 in the decisive fifth rubber.
Belgium closed out a resounding 5-0 triumph over Sweden to also steal a World Group spot.
