Pakistan youngsters to compete in Qatar
KARACHI: The Pakistan Tennis Federation (PTF) will send a four-member team to the Qatar Asian U14 Team Cup on December 20.
Muzammil Murtaza, the current top player in the U14 category, is one of the four players chosen to represent the country in the event.
The PTF held trials at the Tennis Complex in Islamabad last month for the Asian Tennis Federation event.
The team also includes Talha bin Asif, Aman Atique Khan and Muhammad Mujahid.
Meanwhile, PTF’s international referee and official Shehzad Alvi said the team has a good chance of winning the championship.
“We have very talented players this time,” Alvi told The Express Tribune. “They want to perform well because it’s the last year in the U14 category for all four of them. I hope they win the championship. But if they don’t, at least one of them should take the silver or bronze medal.”
Alvi said the competition in Qatar will be tough and the players will also gain valuable experience when they will go against players from different Asian countries.
“It’s an interesting age group; they will get the required exposure that will help them improve their game. We are sending the best talent we have. We are confident that they have the potential to impress their opponents,” concluded Alvi.
