Rooney signs new Manchester United contract
The striker had been subject of serious interest from Chelsea last summer and was reluctant to commit to the Red Devils as recently as December, but he will now stay at the club
Manchester United have announced that Wayne Rooney has signed a new five-and-a-half-year contract.
Widespread reports on Sunday claimed that the striker had agreed to a new deal worth £300,000 per week, and the club have now confirmed that he will stay at Old Trafford.
Chelsea had two bids for Rooney rejected last summer but the Red Devils, in particular manager David Moyes and new executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward, were adamant that he would not be allowed to leave.
