KARACHI: World Youth Champion Moizullah Baig is aiming to defend his title next month in Sri Lanka after dominating the Pakistan Scrabble Association (PSA) qualifiers at the Beach Luxury Hotel, Karachi, on July 14.

The 17-year-old proved his worth as he outplayed 25 other U18 players in the PSA qualifiers for the World Youth Scrabble Championship (WYSC) in Colombo , which will be held from August 29 to 31.
Moiz won 20 out of 27 matches with a spread of 1,602 to book his place as the top player from Pakistan.
“I hope I can emulate last year’s performance at the WYSC,” Moiz told The Express Tribune. “I can feel the pressure. I know the competition will only get tougher from here.
“We have a month to train ourselves, so I’m working hard. I think our Pakistani players will finish at the top of the world rankings again this year.
“I want to win for myself as well as for Pakistan,” added Moiz. “It’s an individual competition first, and then the team ranking depends on how the individual players from each country have performed in the competition. So ultimately, I want to defend this title for my team.”
He further said that he would be playing more tournaments and practicing with relevant softwares to improve his skills.
Islamabad’s Abdullah Abbasi, Bisma Fatima, Mariam Arif, Hammad Hadi, Hamza Sheikh, Hassan Hadi, Absar Mustajab, Hasham Hadi and Arsalan Ahmed will join Moiz as part of the Pakistan squad.
