Chennai confirmed as venue for first Test, Mohali for second

MUMBAI: The BCCI has confirmed that Chennai will host the first Test between India and England. The BCCI has now confirmed that the ECB has agreed to the changes made to the itinerary. Chennai will now host the first Test, as was reported by Indian media, while Mohali will host the second Test; the tour match now stands cancelled.

Further, a final clearance to the tour will only be given after the ECB''s security consultant holds discussions with the BCCI officials later this week.

The Punjab Cricket Association (PCA) has refused to host the first Test match between India and England that is scheduled to be played between November 11 and November 15. PCA has also refused to host the tour game between England and Board Presidentís XI.

It was earlier reported that the first Test of the two-Test series that was originally to be hosted by Ahmedabad was shifted to Mohali.

Chennai was originally to stage games for the now postponed Twenty20 Champions League and are therefore ready to host cricket at the earliest. Mohali hosted the second Test match between India and Australia in October. A PCA official told media that it was too short a notice for the Punjab stadium to host an international game but that it will be ready for the second Test that gets underway on December 19.
