The Fresh Prince of Bel Air catalysed many pop culture references including the term ‘The Carlton’ - slang used to describe the dorky dance Alfonso Ribeiro’s character Carlton Banks performed in various awkward moments throughout the series.
And according to TVLine, The Fresh Prince of Bel Air is likely to experience a rebirth on small screens, as Will’s production company Overbrook Entertainment is apparently in the very early stages of developing a reboot.
The new version of The Fresh Prince of Bel Air will reportedly be set in modern day. And even though the programme will differ from the original in numerous ways, the outlet insists “the spirit of the original series” will be maintained despite the new direction.
Will would serve as executive producer on the project along with his wife Jada Pinkett-Smith and their Overbrook Entertainment colleagues Caleeb Pinkett and James Lassiter.
Executives are said to be working on fleshing out the official longline now and it’s claimed they’ll have a package to begin pitching within the next few weeks or so.

“[I’d] be happy to talk to Will [Smith] about it,” NBC Entertainment Chairman Robert Greenblatt said at the Television Critics Association summer press tour, emphasising the network has no involvement in the reboot concept at this time.
