Rambil hands 17th Frontier Open Snooker title
PESHAWAR: Rambil Khan clinched the trophy and purse of Rs. 50,000 after defeating four-time champion Inam-ur-Rehman in the final of the 17th Frontier Open Snooker Championship played here at Green Snooker Club on Thursday.
NWFP Minister for Information Mian Iftikhar was the chief guest on this occasion. NWFP Minister for Sports and President of the NWFP Olympic Association Syed Aqil Shah, President and Secretary of the NWFP Billiards and Snooker Association and large number of spectators witnessed the thrilling final.
Inam, after winning the first frame by 75-45, failed to keep his momentum against vigilant Rambil and lost the final in a one-sided affair. While talking to media, Inam-ur-Rehman, who once ranked 3 at national level, said that the organizers imported the balls and fabric of table meant for the final just a day before so he could not manage with such condition.
The balls, he said, were little heavier then what they have used in earlier matches. It was difficult to hold the cue shot because of no practice on it. “Rambil has little idea of playing on such things in Karachi but I have no idea,” Inam added.
When Rambil asked to comment, he was agreed with the point raised by Inam. The same ball and fabric are in use at international level, he said. “I very quickly picked the way it is used, Rambil said. The score was the final was 45-75, 96-6, 104-25, 120-40, 124-18 and 96-7, 104-6.
