There is already a version of Google sync released previously but now Google has released it for the iphone and windows mobile devices. What actually is Google sync must be very clear from its name; it’s actually a tool that lets you sync your iphone, Windows Mobile phone, or any phone that supports the SyncML format with your Google Calendar and Gmail contacts.
You must be wondering as to why Google has release this for iphone since there is already a version of Google calendar available. But the thing that is new in this application is the push mechanism which forces automatic update of your device OTA which means over the air. This essentially implies that as soon as you change anything on your iphone it will automatically be updated on the web and vice versa is also true.
To talk about this improvement, there is no denying the fact this is will prove very useful to the business people. However it may not be or infact it is not at all important for casual users of this application. But at the same time you need to know that this constant updating will certainly consume more bandwidth and continuous notification will significantly drain out your mobile phone battery.
Since this version of Google sync is only in its beta stage, so don’t expect this to win the marathon, it’s still jogging, not sprinting. Google sync will work in any phone which supports open SyncML protocol. I have also seen user comments saying that, apple contacts are not synced with this tool, well that is a bit of pity and Google and apple both need to fix this up, is they don’t want to miss on the market.
