Islamabad beats Peshawar by 2-wickets in RBS ODI
PESHAWAR: A graceful knock of Fakhar Hussainís 94 runs guided Islamabad to stun Peshawar by 2 wickets in the RBS One-Day Cricket Cup played here at Arbab Niaz Cricket Stadium on Thursday.
Fakhar Hussainís innings laced with 11 cracking boundaries and four towering sixes off just 59 balls also helped team to race to the winning target for the loss of eight wickets.
Islamabad skipper won the toss and invited Peshawar to bat first by piling up 324 runs for the loss of seven wickets after playing 50 overs. Opener Fawad Ali struck elegant 76 runs with 7 cracking boundaries and one six off 88 balls, Muhammad Rizwan made 77 runs off 66 balls with 10 boundaries, Sajjad Ahmad made superb knock of 76 runs off 69 balls with six boundaries, Nawaz Ahmad (30) and Israr Khan (28) were the other leading scorers.
For Islamabad Rauf Ahmad took two wickets for 72 runs, Saad Iltaf claimed two wickets for 72 runs and Rahid Majid took two for 48 runs. In reply, the Islamabad batsmen played excellently by chasing the good target of Peshawar for the loss of eight wickets after playing 42 overs. Fakhar Hussain and Zeeshan Mushtaq, Rahil played key role in steering the team to victory.
Fakhar Hussain hammered 94 runs with 11 boundaries and four sixes. Saad Iltaf made 59 runs, Zeeshan Mushtaq struck 60 runs with 8 boundaries and one six after facing 42 balls, Rahid Majid also hit vital 50 runs off just 36 balls with 10 boundaries and one six, Ishaq Zadi made 31 runs with five boundaries and Zuhaib scored 29 runs off 27 balls with four boundaries and one six.
For Peshawar Nasir took three wickets for 62 runs, Hammad-ul-Hasan took three for 72 runs. Thus Islamabad won the match by two wickets. Zahir Ahmad and Saifullah Senior supervised the match while Ishtiaq Ahmad acted as match referee and Nadeem was the official scorer.
