When bad is good
WHEN BAD IS GOOD
Recently I had one of those days. You know the kind,
when you think things can't get any worse, and then it does.
It started when my wife, Carol had car trouble.
I drove twenty or so miles to meet up with her and gave her
the car I was driving, after getting hers started.
I didn't want to take a chance of her being stranded again
as she had more places to go.
I had only gone a few miles when I stopped at a traffic light
and guess what happened next - yep, the car shut off
and would not start. Rather than block traffic I jumped and
started pushing the car. That is when bad turned to worse.
My first shove on the car and I felt the muscle pull in my leg.
Thankfully someone else had seen what had happened and
helped push my car off the road.
Hurting, tired, and stressed, I called Carol and she came
to where I was stranded. Limping terribly I somehow managed
to get the battery out of the car and we headed to a local
discount store to buy a new one. Hurting as I was I decided
to use the back, garden shop, entrance to the store because
I knew it was closer to the auto care department.
Limping and pushing a shopping cart I went inside and was quickly
approached by a woman who was a representative.
That was when things really got worse. This woman lit into me
like I had broken the Great Commandment.
She said you have to go through the front to check in merchandise!
I knew that, but given the circumstances I thought, hey, why not
just short cut around? She wouldn't have it, and almost yelled
to tell me so. It was embarrassing to say the least as she
followed me, telling me how wrong I was. Limping, pushing and
being scolded the whole way, I left the store.
The amazing part - I never lost my cool. In fact, my wife and I
were concerned about the sales lady. Obviously something was
not right in her life by the way she acted.
The end result - we got a battery and my kids got to see how dad
reacts under pain and stress. I wasn't always calm under stress.
But God over the years has grown me into a calmer person.
How did he grow me?
He grew me by gently leading me through stress.
I have learned to quit focusing on the negative circumstances
when I find myself in a stressful situation. Instead, I ask God
to show me the positive possibilities. We need to remember,
God is in control and he can turn a stressful situation into
Read the promise he gives us in
