A five-wicket bag from Daryl Tuffey has failed to lift New Zealand to victory in a practice 50-over cricket match against Sri Lanka A in Colombo.

The Black Caps lost by 61 runs in what was a warm-up game for the tri-series starting later this week.

Daryl Tuffey took five wickets for 53 runs, helping to dismiss Sri Lanka A for 234 in the 48th over, but in reply New Zealand was all out for 173 in the 42nd over. Jacob Oram made 39 and stand-in skipper Brendon McCullum 34.

The Black Caps play their first match in the tri-series tomorrow against Sri Lanka, then meet India on Friday.
