Aishwarya Rai was some what overshadowed by her heroes or male counterparts in her last two films, Jodhaa Akber and Sarkar Raj. But if she accepts this role, it has the potential of being the most powerful of her career.
It has been reported that Ash has been offered to play one of the most influential female politicians of the world - Benazir Bhutto.
It would be phenomenal for Aishwarya's career; unfortunately it wouldn't do justice to the character of assassinated former PM of Pakistan.
According to sources, the project has taken off and will be produced by UTV and prominent lyricist Neelesh Misra of Johnny Gaddaar and Jannat fame has been approached to pen down the script. Speaking to reporters, Misra maintained that though he had been offered the project he is yet to give his final nod. Reports also confirmed that the producers are holding talks with the Bhutto's family and the Pakistan government for their consent.
News of a biopic being made on Bibi isn't new, but Ash's entry onto the scene certainly is. No matter what her fans may advocate, Aishwarya Rai isn't an excellent actress. She may be able to perform, if her director is good enough, but she will never be able to live up to the persona of Bibi. One feels that someone with screen presence like Tabu, for instance, would have been more suitable for the role. But having said that, Ash's box office appeal is immense and being the beautiful, successful woman that she is, we are sure Benazir wouldn't have objected too much. If Aishwarya does sign on, then she'll go from portraying an abused housewife (in Provoked) to a powerful political in this biopic. Not a bad thing for her at all!
