Aussies crush Windies by 113 runs in 1st ODI
MELBOURNE: Australia continued their unbeaten run this summer defeating West Indies by 113 runs in the first One-day International here on Sunday.
Allrounder Shane Watson played a pivotal role as his superb 59 helped Australia set up an imposing target of 257, before he took a wicket and a catch. He was later adjudged the man-of-the-match.
The victory continued Australia''s successful season, having won every match against Pakistan.
Put into bat by West Indies captain Chris Gayle, Australia made 256 for eight in the allotted 50 overs.
Pollardís career-best 3 for 45 was instrumental in stopping Australia push on towards 300 and then he top scored with 31 in the chase.
However, West Indies batsmen could not resist against the effective bowling from Australian bowlers and were all out for 143 in 34.2 overs.
paceman Ryan Harris and spinner Nathan Hauritz took three wickets each for 24 and 28 runs, respectively while Doug Bollinger claimed two wickets for 18.
