PM directs to regularize all hockey players
LAHORE: Prime minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani has announced to allocate Rs500 million in federal budget for promotion of hockey in the country and give Rs10 million for the national team participating in the World Cup.
The national hockey team under the leadership of president Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF) Qasim Zia met with the prime minister at the Guest House here on Sunday.
Prime minister Gilani said on the occasion that the nation has high expectations with the national team and he hopes that the team would display good performance in the World Cup.
He also announced a cash prize of Rs500,000 for Sohail Abbas, who achieved the feat of scoring 300 goals in international hockey.
The prime minister gave an approval for regularizing the employment of the hockey players in government departments.
On this occasion, PHF president Qasim Zia and secretary Asif Bajwa said that players are the ambassadors of peace and the national hockey team is going India to take part in the World Cup with a message of peace.
