Australia beat Spain 2-0, getting closer to semis

NEW DELHI: Title favorite Australia moved closer to the semifinals by defeating Spain 2-0 Saturday in the field hockey World Cup.

It was Australia''s third win in four Pool B matches, giving it nine points, while Spain suffered its second defeat in four games and has six points.

England, which plays India later Saturday, leads the pool table with a maximum nine points from three games.

Australia took the lead against Spain through Luke Doerner''s penalty corner conversion in the 20th minute. Glenn Turner then deflected in a square-pass from Robert Hammond in the 60th minute to dash Spain''s hopes of staging a comeback.
