National Hockey Championship begins tomorrow

KARACHI: the 57th National Inter-Departmental Hockey Championship will begin tomorrow in Karachi.

Players of more than 30 years of age have been banned to play in the championship.

Ten departments are participating in the National Hockey Championship. They are Pakistan International Airlines, National Bank, Habib Bank, Pakistan Army, WAPDA, Sui Gas, Pakistan Air Force, Port Qasim, Karachi Electric Supply Corporation and Pakistan Navy.

In all, 45 matches will be played in the tournament and some of them will be held under floodlights.

All participating teams have reached Karachi and started practice at the Hockey Club of Pakistan ground.

According to new laws of the Pakistan Hockey Federation, no player of more than 30 years of age will play for any team.

Organising secretary of the championship Mohammad Farooq said that if any team fields a player of over 30 years the team manager and the player would be banned.
