A movie by the Baweja's, Love Story 2050 boasts of being India's first futuristic sci-fi film with a budget of 55 crore. Directed by Harry Baweja, Love Story 2050 marks the debut of his son Harman Baweja. Priyanka Chopra plays the female lead in this movie.
First let me brief you the story....
Love Story 2050 takes you on a journey from the present to a world that we are yet to see and experience. Karan (Harman Baweja) and Sana (Priyanka Chopra) are the two major characters of the movie. Karan is a lively, high on spirits kind of guy who likes to go out of the rules and regulations while Sana is just the opposite of him in her character. She is sweet and shy girl who abides by the rules and norms. But as science proves, opposite attract and love blossoms between the two. All was fine until Sana meets with an accident and dies.
Karan, with the help if his scientist uncle Dr Ya (Boman Irani), travels in time to 2050 with the help of his uncle's time machine in search of his lady love Sana. In 2050, flying cars, 200 story buildings, robots and sky rails have changed the face of Mumbai. Karan encounters Zeisha a pop singer who is just like Sana. Will the lovers unite again? Does future hold happily ever after for them?
Harry Baweja has invested a lot of money and time (more than 3 years) into this project. But the results are disastrous, Harry fails miserably as a storyteller. Absolutely nothing works for this futuristic tale. The love story doesn't connect, the chemistry isn't great, the songs are bad, dialogues are horrible and even the special effects works against the movie, as it takes your attention away from the core story. The movie lies on a wafer thin plot line that makes absolutely no sense. Although the movie starts off well with Harman's introduction, it then begins to drag into a series of clichés. The first half of the movie is the usual boy meets girl, falls in love and sings a few songs, the story ends with a twist. With the second half going into future, with lots of special effects you expect something better, but it just painfully drags. With popcorn in your hands, it's hard to resist the need to bury your head deep into the popcorn tub.
Also why do the Baweja's seem to be heavily inspired by the Roshan's? There are certain scenes that remind you of Krrish and Kaho Na Pyaar Hai. Harman too in his debut seems to be heavily inspired by Hrithik Roshan. His body language, mannerisms, costumes, dancing style is extremely similar to the superstar. But it's in the acting department that Harman fails. Although good in a few scenes, his dialogue delivery is below average to say the least.
Priyanka Chopra is sticking to her irritating mannerisms, the actress who was in top form in Aitraaz, has been disappointing since. Boman Irani manages to entertain with his over the top performance. Archana Puran Singh performs well.
Overall, Love Story 2050 lacks entertainment. The movie being more than 3 hours long is also a negative. Not worth the price of your ticket. Stay far away...
