di - Setup Power Management Rules In Windows To DecreasNow-a-days, we all are seeking ways of saving the energy everywhere specially in our desktop which consumes a lot of power and plays a major role in our high electricity bills. Also, in offices, some careless employees don’t turn-off their system when they leave the office which keeps the system on for the whole night.

For solving this kind of problem, there is a useful application called Smart Power which will help you save energy and definitely your money.

Smart Power is a energy saver service for Windows that saves energy by hibernating and resuming your Windows PC according to configurable rules. It is compatible with Windows xp, vista and 7. It requires .NET Framework for its installation.

It allows you to schedule the timings of your PC to restart, hibernate or suspend. For example, if i want my computer to start at 9’o clock in the morning and shut down at 9 in the night automatically which i can do just by setting this schedule.

TIP: Make sure the you enable both the ‘smart power’ and ‘Wake-up’ options for successful working.

It also provide the ‘Grace Time’ option before performing the specified operation in which you can close all important programs and not loose any information.

You can also restrict the schedule with applying some rules according to your comfort. For doing this, there are 4 options available. First one is the ‘device’ which stands for anything on your network that will respond to a ping. Using it, you can keep your computer ON even after its end time schedule.

For example, if you put htpc and torrent/download in the devices then, if these devices are active at the time of end time then, your computer will stay ON till these devices get inactive.

Second is ‘Network’ in which you can set the threshold throughput. When your network throughput is above it, then computer will stay ON even after the scheduled hibernate time.

TIP: Disable hibernate/suspend on system idle in your power saving settings. Smart Power cannot wake-up your PC if Windows has hibernated/suspended it.
