Kim Clijsters cruises in Sydney
Kim Clijsters needed just an hour to win her opening match of 2011 to reach the second round of the Sydney International.
Third seed Clijsters stormed out of the blocks, winning the first 11 points against Alexandra Dulgheru and sailing to a 5-0 lead before wrapping up a 6-1 6-2 victory in 62 minutes. Clijsters, who won the title in 2003 and 2007, will now meet either Nadia Petrova or Barbora Zahlavova Strycova in the second round.
In the only other main draw match, Svetlana Kuznetsova eased past Australian wildcard Jelena Dokic 6-2 6-2 in the pair's first meeting since 2003.
Meanwhile, at the Hobart International in Tasmania, fourth seed Roberta Vinci booked her place in the second round with a comfortable victory over fellow Italian Romina Oprandi 7-6(0) 6-3. Vinci was joined in the second round by compatriot Sara Errani, who beat former champion Anna Chakvetadze 7-6(5) 6-3.
Ayumi Morita needed a third-set tiebreak to find a way past Akgul Amanmuradova, 3-6 6-1 7-6(3), while eighth seed Angelique Kerber edged past Kimiko Date-Krumm 7-5 7-6(3).
